How does an online auction work?
Sellers deliver bottles to the Celtic Whiskey Shop, Dublin or Celtic Whiskey Bar & Larder, Killarney. These bottles are then checked by our team and listed on the website for the next auction. Celtic Whiskey Auction runs every month and registered users can bid on the bottles once the auction has begun. The highest bidder at the close of the auction is then notified and asked for payment- they have 7 days to pay for their Lot (otherwise late fees will apply) .The seller receives payment within 7 days after all their sold items have been paid for by their respective bidders.
How much is my bottle of whisk(e)y worth?
At Celtic Whiskey Auction we offer valuations free of charge. If you would like a valuation, please email a description of the whisky & image to: Jack@celticwhiskeyauction.com. Please note that the value of a bottle of whisky is constantly fluctuating, valuations will be given based on latest market trends.
What fees do you charge?
Selling on CelticWhiskeyAuction.com couldn’t be easier! The seller’s fees are:
A €5 (plus VAT) registration fee for each lot.
An additional €5 (plus VAT) fee if you’d like to put a reserve on that lot.
We would only recommend setting a reserve price if it’s a niche product that’s rarely seen for sale but this decision is solely up to yourself. Please also note the following
5% Sellers commission on hammer price. Sellers commission reduces to 3.5% on all lots over €2000.
There is no VAT on the hammer price of whiskey, spirits, wine or memorabilia sold at auction
VAT is charged at 23% on registration, commission, listing and reserve fees only

When does the auction end?
The end date of the current auction is always clearly displayed on the homepage.
From 8 pm onwards, the software begins to monitor online activity on the Celtic Whiskey Auction site. It will then close the auction at an unspecified time to defend the site against sniper software. As a result, the site will begin the closing process from 8pm onwards rather than closing at a specified time.
From previous experience, it will most likely finish sometime after 9pm. This process will also eliminate any need to rush bids at 8pm.
