Fraud Prevention Policy at Celtic Whiskey Auction
At Celtic Whiskey Auction, we take the issue of fraudulent whiskies very seriously. With our extensive experience in the whiskey trade, we possess the expertise to identify fake or fraudulent whiskies in most cases.
We understand that our customers share these concerns, and we have established a comprehensive policy to address them.
Our Verification Process
When listing new items for auction, we perform a series of checks to ensure authenticity:
-
Physical Inspections:
- We carefully inspect the bottle to ensure everything appears correct, including verifying the print quality of labels, checking for any spelling errors, and looking for other signs of tampering.
- We inspect the seal to confirm that the bottle has not been opened or compromised.
- For bottles with tax strips (if applicable), we ensure that they are correctly positioned and from the appropriate era.
- For opaque bottles, we assess the weight to ensure it aligns with the expected contents.
-
Research:
- We compare similar bottles where possible to verify consistency.
- We check the color of the liquid, glass codes/etchings, bottle shape, label designs, closure types, and other identifying features.
-
Provenance Checks:
- If necessary, we will research the origin of the bottle and its seller. We also attempt to establish the ownership history when possible.
-
Expert Consultations:
- In certain cases, we may consult with our trusted contacts and whiskey network, both within the industry and beyond, to get additional expert opinions.
