This 10 year old Yamazaki is said to be multi-layered in taste and is highly praised by whisky connoisseurs. It first came onto the scene in the late 1980s and was the first seriously marketed Japanese single malt whisky. Yamazaki is arguably the number 1 single malt whisky in Japan. The 12 year old then has a proportion of the ageing being carried out in Japanese (Mizunara) oak this has taken on some wonderful exotic spice and incense aromas. A touch of Sherry cask ageing has enhanced it with some fruit and chocolate flavours. Despite all this the whisky remains delicate and easy going.
